If you somehow missed the heady days of 1990s console racing, then this one’s for you. It’s like the arcade is in your house, on your very own fun-sized CRT TV, and being enjoyed by you and your actually-there-in-person friends. Guaranteed lag-free voice chat with no headset required! Thanks to Blizzard Entertainment and MisspentYouth you can now experience all this for yourself…
Here are the keys: DOWNLOAD LEGAL COPY OF ROCK N’ ROLL RACING FOR PC!
Here is the ignition: SOUNDTRACK ACTIVATE!
Strap yourself in and prepare to race like it’s 1993!
The vibrant 640p visuals are there. The hard rocking soundtrack is there*. All that’s missing is an original Super Nintendo joypad in your hand, and I don’t care because I have two and the original game. You can make do with arrow keys or your fancy-schmancy Xbox controller if your PC is that well prepared, then come and see me when you’ve got some skills.
Just remember to wear your rose-tinted early-90s glasses until you are fully accustomed to the wonders of a 16bit existence.
*Admittedly with authentic recordings courtesy of YouTube in place of Blizzard’s transcribed MIDI versions. Presumably Rock N’ Roll Racing’s original soundtrack’s licensing deal expired many years ago, resulting in the new and slightly less exciting substitute music that now ships with the game.
